pharmaceutical sales

Frequently Asked Questions

1) I have heard that pharmaceutical representatives are all being downsized, that there are no positions available?

Since writing the previous edition in 2005 and reading some press releases, I could see how one would come to that conclusion, but in reality there is approximately 100,000 pharmaceutical representatives in the United States. Some “large Pharma” companies with salesforces in the 5-12 thousand range have cut back, which makes the news, but many biotech, medium and small Pharma companies that are listed in Chapter Nine have made large gains, with now a total of approximately 99,000 reps currently in the United States.
A 1% drop out of 100,000 is not much. In addition, over the last the 40 years, the annual rate of turnover for a pharmaceutical representative with any company per year is between 9-17%, that’s a tremendous amount of opportunity waiting for you.

2) Is finding a pharmaceutical sales position difficult?

It doesn’t have to be. There are well proven methods for securing your first pharmaceutical job or changing positions within the industry. They include the correct way to network (which is paramount in the pharmaceutical industry versus other industries) , understanding how to obtain the interviews, a proper resume tailored to this industry and being well versed in the companies’ history, revenues, current products, their indications, and products in the pipeline. Since the first edition of Insight was first published in 1998, Anne Clayton’s book Insight into a Career in Pharmaceutical Sales or Insight has helped thousands to securing their goal over the past 10 years.

3) I don’t have any experience in a pharmaceutical job. I’ve never been in the medical field or sales. Can I still secure a pharmaceutical sales representative position?

Yes! One of the things that make pharmaceutical sales so appealing is that almost any work experience is acceptable as long as you possess a 4-year degree. The most important requirement is the desire for the position and the willingness to “go to work” on uncovering the opportunities in your area following Insights step by step direction.

4) I have experience in pharmaceutical sales but would like to pursue a change to another company; I am again looking for opportunities within the pharmaceutical industry. How can Insight help me?

In addition to the profiles on over 50 companies (of which each will save you hours of time) you must be proficient in the interviews for the competition has never been tougher. Chapter Six and the Two Audio CD’s will cover 106 questions and answers that District Managers and Regional Directors are looking for. You must be able to demonstrate you have the competencies for this position. Insight will have you better prepared than 99% of the candidates.
A few years of experience do not make you a “lock” for any position; the one that interviews as a professional and demonstrates their competencies within the interview process will get the offer. You need to practice, stay sharp, and know the industry, your total career.

5) Who is pharmaceuticalsales.com inc.?

pharmaceuticalsales.com is the domain name picked when writing the absolute first book on how to enter this industry in August of 1998. Since then, there have been numerous copies (some good, some not, some have unfortunately have been word by word copies, and others that ask you to take a test after reading a book and mail you a certificate). After 10 years this is the highest caliber book out there that you, the pharmaceutical candidate, can purchase with confidence and assurance.

Being first with a book for this career, first with email support line, first with Audio CD’s you will be very satisfied. If you’re not happy, as Anne Clayton has promised in the previous ten years and editions, your money will be fully refunded and you may keep the book and CD’s. We operate at the highest ethics and want to also warn those of the so called “certificate” and “pharmaceutical associations” that have come to life in the last 6 years that state they are needed to gain entry to the industry. Check with the Human Resource department of several pharmaceutical companies, within the industry, see if they are aware or seek these certificates? See if they are aware their logo is being used in conjunction with these organizations? You will probably save hundreds. But there you will hear your impartial and honest answer.

Remember, if you are unhappy with the work in Insight, you may have a full refund. We will keep you happy, after 10 years, we always have.
